Red Rick is a dark hairy polled purebred bull that we purchased from Rendezvous Simmentals in 2021.  He was born at 70 lbs and weaned off at 845 lbs. His sire is one of Rendezvous’ heifer bulls from the great Skors Simmental program.  His sire is a smooth steady mover and all the heifers bred to him calved unassisted.  On the bottom side of his pedigree is a powerful young fullblood Fleckvieh cow.  We hope that he will be our purebred curve bender!  We have used him a variety of cows and he performed well.  The average birth weight on 14 calves is 88 lbs and they came easy.  We are looking forward to monitoring his progeny’ ‘performance.

Axel is a home-raised bull out of a tremendous cow.  We thought so highly of this commercial cow that we went to the added expense of registering her later in life.  She is a bull—maker!  Although she is a moderate-framed cow, she is thick deep and weighed 1500 lbs going onto pasture last year. She is 11 years old and still in the herd with a good udder and her feet have never been touched. Axel’s dark red, hairy, purebred polled sire had a number of desirable qualities.  He was as long as a freight train, had the biggest widest butt we have ever seen and was an amazing breeder.  He produced club champion 4-H steers and a grand champion. With these strong genetics, we can hardly wait to turn him out with his own group of cows this spring.

Harley is a bull that we purchased in 2021 to service our black angus-based May herd.  We are developing a purebred black herd so Harley has the opportunity to be a part of this chapter.  Harley’s sire, Tycoon was one of the most talked about bulls of the 2019 bull sale season and ultimately commanded $75,000 at the Sunny Valley sale. He is well balanced, big hipped, deep quartered, huge ribbed bull. His sire is SVS Brooks who was a $60,000 high seller in 2017 and created a lot of positive chatter with his first calf crop. Tycoon is backed by an elite dam from a tremendous cow family with strong udder and foot quality. Harley has beautiful EPD’s and is an easy bull to work with.

Homo-polled, hetero-black purebred Simmental

Express is our latest heifer bull purchased from Boundary Ranch in 2021. His sire was purchased by Boundary Ranch for $110,000 from the Wheatland program. He is a smooth-made bull with a beautiful small head, nice hair coat and weighed 71 lbs at birth. We are confident that he is a safe heifer bull with a bright future at Pemlock Simmentals.

Lonestone Red Flexer 903G

Shiloh is a dark red angus bull that we purchased from Lonestone Farms. We alternate the use of fullblood Fleckvieh bulls and angus bulls in our commercial herd to maintain hybrid vigor.  Fleckvieh is a very versatile breed that crosses very well with a number of breeds.  We chose angus as they complement the Fleckvieh so well.  They bring maternal strength, color, and smaller frames not to mention polled heads.  Fleckvieh produces strong males and females so it is a win-win.  We have thick easy-fleshing steers and beautiful replacement females.

Purebred Angus

Cracken, a dark red polled purebred bull boasts a beautiful thick wavy haircoat over his very muscular build. His moderate 95 lb BW and excellent
EPDs made him an excellent choice.  He hails from some of the Maxwell Simmentals anchoring red cow families. Within a week of arriving, he sustained an injury recovering enough to breed some cows in 2021 and 2022 but has unfortunately reinjured himself in 2023. We are grateful to have several straws of this meat machine in our semen tank.
